Tennis net posts may be permanently installed into the court's surface, but it’s recommended that they are set in ground sleeves. Setting the posts in sleeves is more expensive initially but in addition to allowing multiple uses for the court, such installation prevents the future need to dig up the court to replace old posts. Net post foundations should be no less than 18” in diameter at the top and not less than 30” at the bottom. Foundations should be at least 36” deep. The appropriate depth depends on the soil conditions and the amount of freezing activity at the site.

Net posts are set 42” apart for the doubles court. The measurement should be made from the center of one post to the center of the other. Refer to the official USTA rules of tennis for complete specifications.
